Default Should I move to Manahawkin??

I live in western Morris County (Flanders) and my husband is being transferred to southern Ocean County. I have so many fears in making this move, including quality of schools, access to services, diversity, etc. On the other hand, the taxes are lower in Ocean County (I'm paying $13K/year here and there's no end in sight!!) and I think Manawkin/Stafford is now a growing area.

Does anyone have opinions or insight to this area? Or...if my husband will be working in Manahawkin, are there better places to live down there with a short commute?

Default I love Manahawkin

I just wanted to say that I love Manahawkin. I moved here 2 years ago. I had family in the area. This is a very family oriented neighborhood. The people walking down the street wave and smile at you. I find the schools to be very good. They offer alot. I have 2 school age children and they have had no problems in the schools. We are getting alot of new stores like Target & BJ's. We are getting an Outback Steakhouse, too. We are close to the Parkway and to LBI(Long Beach Island). I love it there. Beautiful. Lots of shopping, resturants, amusements, and nightlife. I think Manahawkin is ideal. I would not consider Barnegat. Settlers Landing has turned into an unsafe place to live, Very run down. My husband lived there growing up and he says it is so different now. The only downside to living here is the traffic in the summer time on Rt.72 and the Parkway. Everyone is coming to LBI. Lots o0f Money to stay there. Has a better class of people. Hope this was helpful.

Hi, I'm new to this board. I'm 37. Around 1980, when I was about 10, I lived in "Settlers Landing" in Barnegat. (Is it called "Ocean Acres" now?) I was just poking around in Google Maps and Zillow.com, looking at places I used to live (I moved around A LOT) growing up. I remember when I lived there (only for a year) there were at least two houses that had burned down (and it was a nice neighborhood at the time). Just now I was looking at "Birds Eye Views" on Zillow and it looks like another house has burnt (as far as I can tell from the photo). What IS is about that neighborhood that there are so many fires? Does anyone know? I'm just curious.

It's sad to hear that it's gone downhill. I loved it when I lived there.

Lauren

I would live in Barnegat NJ. Great Schools. I have lived her for 5 years. Manahawkin is nice but lots more traffic to deal with, but taxes are lower. But I think you get a better house for the price in Barnegat so the extra couple hundred bucks you pay is worth it to me. Plus Barnegat has a brand new high school and building a new middle school. So look into barnegat. My neighbor is selling their house which is a Ryan home. It is 5 years old and the same model as mine (Savoy). They are being transfered for work to Wisconsin. They are awesome people and so is their house! I am not sure what price range you are in, but they are listed at 369,900. And Ryan is building the same model down the street for $390,000 brand new but without any upgrades and they got a lot in their house. I would jump on it soon if you are moving not sure it will last.. They priced it to move for his job. Address is 125 Georgetown Blvd in Barnegat. It is at the end of the block so it is very quite and lots of trees behind them.

Good luck with you move..
