I live a very close distance from Fairview and let me tell you this: It's no longer the Italian oriented town it once was. I used to live in Fairview up until 15 years ago and has gone downward since. Alot more crime and many of the properties I used to walk by as a kid growing up there and were beautiful are no longer maintained and dirty if that tells you anything. Anderson Avenue (the main drag in this town) leans towards the Spanish taste by far. For the same $$$ I'd look into other neighboring towns in Bergen County. Just walk these areas of Fairview at night and you'll see what I mean.

Fairview is beyond filthy, and it seems that all the Italians have left. The only town I saw go to hell quicker than Fairview was Belleville.
Anderson Ave during the night is downright scary.

I am not from the area but have lived in Fairview for 3 years. Fairview is not as nice as it once was, but it is still nice. There are a lot of renters now, they do not maintain their homes the way an owner would. The people are not very educated which also results in a lower class of people. Either way, it is not dangerous like some of these people are saying. It is just not a wealthy town. It is working class...

I agree. Fairview is now a dump as the entire area has gone to hell. I don't want to sound insensitive, but seeing day laborers standing all over the place is a real eyesore as well. The ultimate kick in the teeth is that people want top dollar for their homes in this area not to mention the property taxes are insane.

Yeah, I'm Italian and very proud of it. And I hate to see the old Italian communities go to hell. It's a shame.
Before I discovered this forum. I thought Belleville was still the same old Italian community that it was once known for. After reading some of these posts, I have no desire to live there now. Most of the white people that live there though are still your typical hard-working Italian-American families, but the younger generations are mostly hispanic. It's a pretty diverse town, and crime isn't that bad. I just think the diversity scares people. The only real bummer is that it used to be a lot better when it was an old Italian community.

from what I've observed, the Cuban hispanics (and some Puerto Rican hispanics) are a hard working, deeply religious people -- it's the Central/South American hispanics that are the bad apples...
