Flag Etiquette & Rules - Lots of Graphics! by Brownielocks - U.S. Flag Rules and Etiquette.

Lyrics and Music

Please allow me to sing - hope you all like my singing.

Music and lyrics by George M. Cohan
Simple Version

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.

Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Complete Version

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag,
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'Neath the Red, White and Blue.
Where there's never a boast or a brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eyes on the grand old flag!

There's a feeling comes a-stealing,
And it sets my brain a-reeling,
When I'm listening to the music of a military band.
Any tune like "Yankee Doodle"
Simply sets me off my noodle,
It's that patriotic something that no one can understand.

"Way down South, in the land of cotton",
Melody untiring,
Ain't that inspiring?
Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll join the Jubilee!
And that's going some,
For the Yankees, by gum!
Red, white and blue, I am for you!
Honest, you're a grand old flag!

You're a Grand Old Flag
You're a high flying flag
And forever, in peace, may you wave!
You're the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave!

Ev'ry heart beats true 'neath the Red, White, and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the Grand Old Flag!

I'm a cranky hanky panky,
I'm a dead square, honest Yankee,
And I'm mighty proud of that old flag
That flies for Uncle Sam.

Though I don't believe in raving
Ev'ry time I see it waving,
There's a chill runs up my back that makes me glad I'm what I am.

Here's a land with a million soldiers,
That's if we should need 'em,
We'll fight for freedom!

Hurrah! Hurrah! For every Yankee tar
And old G.A.R.
Ev'ry stripe, ev'ry star.
Red, white and blue,
Hats off to you
Honest, you're a grand old flag!

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

wow. very interesting article. I couldn't agree more. People think that they can do whatever they want, as long as it is in the name of the flag, which, in reality, is nothing more than a few pieces of different colored cloth sewn together. They forget that it's the meaning behind the flag that is what's important.

I flew one all year on my last house. It doesn't look right with my current house (cookie cutter house!).

I do agree that it is the meaning behind the flag, not the flag itself.

I grew up with my parents hanging the flag most days but especially holidays and when the Republicans won offices. :-)

Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to make sure ours goes out too.

I've had a 20ft fiberglass flagpole in front of the house for almost 10 years now and of course Old glory is always flying. When it starts to tear I replaced it and bring it down to a local center which properly burns them on June 14th (Flag day).

When my son was in the Air Force and coming home on leave, I always put the AF flag below the US. This way they always knew when he was home.

lol, I'm a recent veteran and I'm not going to display the flag until the goose-stepping jagoffs that currently hold power are out of office.

At least half of my students did not know what the Star Spangled Banner was. So sad!
