Hopefully the Ocean County government's 2021-2022Overdose Response Plan will ameliorate the damage that is being done to that entire county by its rampant Opiate/Opioid abuse problem.
“The high rates of opioid use in Ocean County have severely affected individuals with substance use disorders, families, friends, businesses, and our county as a whole. To combat these disheartening trends and prevent fatalities, the Ocean County Overdose Response Plan has been developed through crucial collaboration with community partners. The goal of the Ocean County Overdose Response Plan is to raise awareness about opioid overdose and the devastating impact it is having in Ocean County, monitor jurisdictions that are experiencing increases in their overdose cases, and implement strategies to reduce the number of deaths that we are experiencing in our communities.”
"The impact of the overdose epidemic in Ocean County is a true public health issue. Compared to other counties in New Jersey, Ocean County has experienced an unprecedented number of overdose deaths within the past several years. In 2018, the overdose death rate per 100,000 population for Ocean County is 31.3; this surpassed both the
overdose rates of New Jersey, 30.5, and the United States, 29.1."
You should know it's pronounced Fork - Ed River, not Forkd River
Came here to say this, it’s literally the only thing I know about that town. I only know because I heard some guy call in to a sports radio show and pronounce it that way.
The best German Butcher you can find short of No. Jersey. Lacey Rd. & Rt. 9 For ked River. Been going to them for 30 yrs. when it was a tiny little town. The Captain's Inn is further down Lacey Rd. with the Tiki Bar across the street. Wonderful food and lots of fun!
Plenty of Medical Offices & 2 Hospitals each half way between Forked River, 1 So. & 1 No.
If you ask some specific questions we would be able to answer your inquiries better. kelsie
Forked River ain't what it used to be. So many iterations, now unrecognizable from days gone by.
Uncle ran a party boat out of there and was later harbor master. Lived right on rt 9/oak st, near the Forked River House...that is long gone. then his corner property was a post office and then the post office went away and who knows what it is now. Rural and sparsely settled. Not now. Labyrinth of high end homes, high traffic now.

Yup. And reminded me of a funny sidebar story. I was in bar in Atlantic City some years ago. Got talking to a guy who asked where I was from. Bergen County, at the time. He looked puzzled, so I said North Jersey. He told me the only part of North Jersey he'd ever been to was Forked River.
