Default Toms River area adult communities

After living in the Southeast for the last 27 years, my husband and I are planning to return to the Toms River area to one of the adult communities there. We feel we need to be near our children at this stage of our life.

We plan to go to NJ in the next month or so to look for a home. I've been looking on the internet and the more I look the more confused I get. Does anyone know if there is a way we can see the layout of the different models, the sizes of the rooms, etc. If that were possible, we could decide ahead of time the models we want to look at when we get up there. We are thinking of Leisure Village in Toms River, which is pretty central to our daughters homes. However, we are not ruling out anything right now. Our price range will be 200,000 - 225,000.

Does anyone have any ideas? We'd like to hear from other seniors who have made the move to an adult community in the area. Please let us know about the community you are living in.

My mother bought in Holiday City, which is off Rt 37 in Toms River. There's plenty of inventory available in your price range, and it's a pretty nice place-not too fancy, but nice and quiet.

Default Thanks Bob

Thanks, Bob, for your input. Holiday City is definitely one we will keep in mind.

Wherever we settle, I hope we get a nice neighborhood and nice neighbor. Someone told us, when they heard we were planning to relocate to NJ, said "Why do you want to go up there with all those rude people". I think there are good kind people everywhere. It's a shame NJ has that reputation.

Holiday City is bland and not very unique, but pretty, safe, and well-kept. There are lots of doctors and offices nearby and shopping. The Community Medical Center is only 5 minutes from it. The development is HUGE and has THOUSANDS of houses. It also has several strip malls IN the development ans a mini-mall (indoor). FArom what i hear the neighbors are friendly and there is a homeowners association which mows the lawns, etc. There are also a few clubhouses with pools, etc.

The main roads in the development (Mule Rd, Jamaica Blvd) have lots of traffic and can be dangerous with all the senior driving around, but once you get into the actual neighborhoods it gets quieter.

Thanks to all of you for your valuable input. I hope to hear from residents of other adult communities to get a broader spectrum. We will take all your information with us when we go "house shopping" in New Jersey.
