Is it still considered a stereotype if it's true?
I agree,Philly is not very well liked and rightfully so. Plus there are just as many gun-toting gangsters in south Jersey & Phila than north Jersey anyway so you are right,it is kind of one sided

Need Help
I will be moving to New Jersey very soon from Canada. I'm looking for an area that is family friendly, safe and with great public transit. I've looked at the cost of your houses and they all seem pretty good, but I'm looking to invest into something between 90-350K.
I have heard that Orange,NJ in Essex is an okay place to live from a friend becuase it's close to NYC. But i'm not farmiliar with the other areas in each county.
Can someone provide an effective website or link to information on where the ideal place to live in NJ would be.
Please post your opinions, suggestion or ideas about any where in Essex county that would best suite an older family?
THanks

North East Jersey
Hudson/bergen/essex! expensive but worth it, theres more to do, i dont give 2 craps about scenery. unless its a city skyline, NYC baby. thats why i love my NE part of jersey. I love the NYC lifestyle
People like the nature of NW jersey, but you can find that in North bergen county in the sticks. And south jersey seems BORING to me, WAY diffrent kinds of people also (not in a bad way)
Central is just like Maryland or something..

Interpret my words as you will. I did not attack anyone in particular, nor did I even give a metaphorical definition for "turd". Apparently you assumed... which is fine... but that doesn't defy the City-Data terms of service. As a matter of fact, calling me "rude" is more of a defiance thereof... but thankfully, I believe that we all have certain rights... including the First Amendment right to free speech. America may be going down the toilet more and more each day, marching ever closer to becoming a Socialist republic... but at least, until it becomes entirely Socialist, I will defend and exercise the right to free speech.

You know what? You're right. Your comment was rude and disgusting!

Don't even waste your energy on people like this. It's funny how the jealous people that leave NJ because they find it so terrible keep coming back to the NJ threads. If they disliked NJ so much, why would they still want to be part of it?
BTW I prefer South Jersey for the beaches

I'm not saying Central Jersey is cheap because it's not. But 550,000 gets you ALOT more house in Hunterdon, Somerset, or Monmouth when you compare what it gets you in Passaic, Morris and especially Bergen.

I thought the turd comment was just meant to be sarcasm.

Busch Boy's assessment seems to be correct.

I checked your public profile... you're the same ethnicity as I am and you were born in the same town as I was... probably at Riverview Hospital, too. Makes me wonder how you could think a non-cuss word such as "turd" is so disgusting. Growing up in central Jersey, we both probably heard dozens of less pleasant synonyms for poop by the time we entered middle school.

The original poster was asking for opinions. I had 25 years of experience to back my opinions. A lot of people come to Jersey expecting to find the land of milk and honey... and then they learn the hard way that normal people get "milk"ed for all they're worth and the only people who get "honey" are either part of the state's all-too-extensive welfare system or connected to the corrupt politicians in Trenton.
By the way, I usually don't cruise the NJ forum. I happened to see this thread title on top in the list of state-based forums on the forum home page. When people ask questions to which I can provide a fact-based answer, I see no point to withholding that answer... especially when it's coming from someone who is looking to see if he wants to be a part of Jersey and if so, which part of Jersey. Apparently, a lot of people really like Jersey... hence why they're still trippin' over each other to live there.
And, just to settle this, the only two things I really liked about Jersey more than where I live now is that people actually had money and you could actually get a snow day. I'm moving somewhere where people actually have money and it rarely ever snows... not to mention the much less restrictive gun control laws... a better world, for sure.
