So you've got the 'bug" now : ) Word of advice - join Jenny Craig as soon as you arrive!!! Also, you should just leave the skinny southern girl clothes down in georgia...you won't need them for long in NJ : ) Let us know when you're due to arrive... I'll send you a list of the best places to eat! First stop - "The Garlic Rose" in Madison!!!! BYOB - small so you'll need to make reservations. This will be your re-introduction to real Italian food! Don't want to overdue it too soon...we'll gradually bring you back to Jersey life : ))
Hit the "Millburn deli" and have a "Joe"................you will never forget it the rest of your life,I swear!
From a previous poster, living in the South East, " What I miss the most from NJ, is the Culture".
So, I ask you all dedicated Members, "What is the Culture of New Jersey?".
To be truthful, there are two cultures: One in Northern NJ, and the other one in Southern NJ. Northern NJ is more like New York City, and Southern NJ is more like Philadelphia.
THANK YOU, NJGUY, that was very entertaining and beautiful to watch!!!!!!!!!!!We love all the Italians.
You're Welcome
That video was only one song of many from an Italian program that ran for 4 weekend days in 4/2008 called "Ti Lascio una Canzone" where kids up to 16 years old were singing - it was great.
Simona Collura who sang the song is only 11 years old.

I took two semesters of Italian in college, a very long time ago, however, they taught me the very formal one, and we I visited "Little Italy," in Manhattan, (now it should be called, "Little China,") many people could not understand my Italian. "Ti Lascio una Canzone," I think it means, I will sing you a song???????

I'll leave you a song
I took 2 years of Italian back in High School - but most of what I know is from listening to my parents and relatives and whatever I speak is the formal version too and not the dialect/slang.
I havent seen big hair since the 80's (thank goodness! That is one fad I don't miss!), I like silver jewelry (personal preference) the post makes NJ sound like a mafia heaven run by dumb chicks with big hair. Jersey is very diverse...maybe some parts of Jersey are like that I don't konw every area, but I can attest that that's NOT all of NJ by any means.
PS.
I know someone will rip me for this...but if I were you I'd stay away from Paterson.
