I am assuming money is an issue if you need something closeby/commutable. Unfortunately, Monmouth IS expensive no matter how you cut it. You're better off (IMO) sending your kid to go live at a dorm at Rutgers - the commute would be really hard for a full time student and they would miss out on so much. I went to both (Monmouth, then Rutgers). Hated Monmouth, LOVED Rutgers. You could also try community college for 2 years and then try and get a transfer after 2 years. Quite a few kids at Rutgers did that who did well at c.c.

Depending on what CC it is. I had friends that went to Passaic County Community College and then wanted to transfer to Rutgers-NB. In order to do it, they basically had to retake all of their classes again because Rutgers didn't want most of the credits. The opted to go to other colleges instead.

Rutgers takes all of Brookdale Community's credit . They are joined institutions. Many that go to Brookdale transfer to Rutgers.

Yes, most of the kids I knew trasnferred from Brookdale and had little problem. I *think* Brookdale is commutable from the area she is talking about.

It is. My son commuted from Brookdale to Manalapan, about 35-45 min depending on Traffic.
I also did the commute myself because I took Travel and Tourism at Brookdale.

35-40 minutes.....was he walking?
That should be under 30 minutes easy. I'm up in Old Bridge and can get to Brookdale in under 20 minutes and there's never any traffic.

Marlboro to Brookdale - 30 MIN on average. Always expect traffic on RT.520 especially during rush hour. I ended up take RT.18 North bound and getting off an exit that lead me to back way to brookdale. Still, about 15 minutes on 18 and another 10 minutes + 5 min to park.

Monmouth College - Way too expensive. Private school.
Rutgers- Oh yeah--Youll be paying mucho bucks for that name...Bleeding green..
(RT.18 is a disaster- 20 minutes - yeah maybe if you take 3 AM classes)
Kean University - Much cheaper than the 2 above. However about a 45 min drive. Thankgod I graduated from there when gas was under $2.

A question. Why do you want there to be colleges in a decent commute from your home? Are you going to force your kids to commute to school?

Rutgers, Stockton, TCNJ, Momnouth University, Brookdale CC, Camden CC, Montclair and more. There are about 30 Colleges all with in 1-2 hours drive of monmouth county. I mean I currently attend Stockton College down in Pomona right near Hamilton, and AC and my parents live in Monmouth. If I wanted I can go home every weekend.
