I grew up right near Sandy Hook and boy was that a mess on every Saturday in the summer (Lots of daytrippers).
In my 20s, I lived in Avon and Belmar. I much preferred Belmar because well...I was in my 20s
I love Point Pleasant but the traffic is just too insane.
I went to Wildwood for this first time this summer and I liked it a lot. I didn't care for the beach though. Although it was free a W-I-D-E, it felt crummy and man-made. The boardwalk was fun though. ~~~~Oh, oh, oh those Wildwood days~~~~
Watcha gonna do?

Bennies? I never heard that one, but I know they call the tourists "shoobies" in South Jersey. I was headed for Wildwood Crest last year, and on the rural stretch of 47 going towards Wildwood, someone had a sign outside their house that said "Go home shoobies!" Little do those people know that their economy would be in the crapper without tourists. You live near the ocean, you should expect tourists....
Plus, the people who settled those shore towns were all "tourists" at one point....

I remember growing up in Manahawkin and we left early on Saturday mornings (like 7:30-8am) to get to Holgate on LBI. My grandparents lived there in the summer. If we didn't leave by 9am, we didn't get there until noon!
Although the tourists would make it busy, I knew that they were necessary. My family was one of the last family-owned real estate in the area (but is no longer there).
It isn't the same now at all! Too built up! But I wouldn't really trade LBI for anywhere else. It's home! Benefits ? Yeah you have to pay for beach badges but you don't have to pay for parking.

I bet you could've parked within a block of the beach in spring lake for free today.

I'm not a 'them' I don't spread out and litter places like human trash
I get to the shore once maybe twice a year for sometimes a day or maybe two.
