Many great memories of Zaberers on the Black Horse Pike in Atlantic County from the mid 1970s. We went there once a week in the summer. I believe it burned down quite a few years later.

Upon entering.. there were dark winding stairways, little dining rooms everywhere and we wondered where we'd sit....great prime rib...fun pina coladas. Charlie Zaberer had big billboards all over south Jersey that said Zaberer's MINUTES AWAY. He passed away years ago and he's buried in the same cemetary as my in-laws in Mays Landing. He has a gigantic headstone that says Charles Zaberer...".Minutes Away". It's a showstopper.

We went to Zaberers many times with my parents. It was located in North Wildwood. There was another great fun place nearby there, called (I think) The Red Garter. You sat at these long tables and they had sing alongs with some of the really old songs. The girls got red garters and I had a few hanging on my mirror. The drinking age, at the time, was 18...

Huh. I didn't know they weren't open year round, although I only went in the summer. I wonder how the locals felt about that? Your third link in a postcard stating "Open mid-may to mid-september."

Hey Joe. My parents used to take my sister and myself there as kids back in the 70's. It was my moms favorite place in Wildwood. I remember the great decorations inside and was wondering if there are any photos that you can post. I have several friends that have been talking about it. What ever happened to your grandparents place??

I didn't know that. So they were stabbed in the back, basically? I recall when they closed it down there was an auction of all the great stuff inside (Must have been the AC location). I loved going there as a kid and teen - the huge drinks, the great food - and then we'd go to the AC racetrack. GREAT TIMES!!!
