Default commute from highland park/edison to lawrenceville?

Hi,
I am starting a job in Lawrenceville (on Rt 206 near Quaker Rd), and I'm thinking of moving to the Highland Park/Edison area. Any thoughts on how long the commute would be? I've heard Route 1 is very evil, but is it possible to have a reasonable commute using some back routes?
Thanks!!

Rt. 1 commute going in and out can be bad. I worked in Ewing and commuted from New Brunswick and then South Brunswick and it was between 25-40 mins. Hitting the traffic going into HP or Edison can probably tack another 20-30 minutes on to that.

What about South or North Brunswick? It's a bit closer and can probably cut your commute in half.

and simply stated, there are no back routes, a significant portion of your trip will have to be on route 1 (or route 27, which is worse).

Just did it today (non rush hour) on Rt One

Drove through Edison between 3:28-3:30, and hit Lawrenceville at 3:58 exactly.

Thanks all for your input. Unfortunately I can't move to south brunswick etc due to constraints for my husband's job - Highland park/edison is about the furthest south we can do. I am going to try out the drive Monday morning ~8 AM to see how bad it is.

One other option: I know that there is a years' wait for a regular parking permit at the Princeton Junction station, but are there spaces in the daily parking lots available at 5-6 PM? If so, I could drive to PJ and park there after work and leave the car overnight, take a train to edison, and do the reverse in the morning.
