Default Youth employment service in NJ.

Hi,

First of all I wanted to thank you all for your advice, help and support since we planned to move to NJ on an ongoing basis. This forum had been really helpful to us.

Thought I would post this one up here as well.

My son is 15 and looking for his first summer job and as we don’t have a network here yet, he doesn’t know where to look for. The town he lives in doesn’t have any openings. I was wondering if there is any youth employment service department/program or anything like that in NJ which can help him find a job.

Appreciate your time and help.

Thanks

My daughter is in the same situation. I was just told that the children can go to the unemployment agency to find summer jobs. Maybe you can give them a try. I am going to do the same.

Most places won't touch a 15 year old. I have one too, we ask at just about every place we go to. Most want 16 or higher.

Not sure but Burger King used to hire at 15, you might check.
My son started there. My daughter, no way, she'd probably kill herself, she can trip over her own 2 feet. There's no way I'll let her consider working around a greasy floor, fryers..

Can he mow lawns?
Does he have computer knowledge?

This is an especially hard time for young people to find work. With so many unemployed people, 15-16 yr olds are not as desirable to employers. IF they can go w/o pay, maybe volunteering this summer would be a good idea, which can be used as a reference for next year.

Depends where you live, I live in Manalapan/ Englishtown and got my first job at 14 (I'll be 16 tomorrow). Check small business, and large attractions in your town, they tend to hire younger.
