Belleville
I was just wondering if anyone had any experience living in Belleville. It's right between my work and school, and the prices there seem to be decent. However, I don't know to make the same mistake I did when I moved to Newark. Does anyone have an opinion on the town? Thanks.

Any mistake that you may have done by moving into Newark will eclipse any future mistakes that you may do. Belleville is not the greatest but is definetely not the worst, drive around the potential area where you want to live during day time hours and night hours and see what is like.

I personally am sick of belleville. I have lived here most of my life and have noticed a degeneration to the quality of life here. Although not a war zone yet, its not getting better. Its getting worse. Crimes like theft here are grossly underreported. Due to police not wanting to take reports on crimes where the suspected is not identified. My car has been hit twice in three months. $1,800 worth of stuff gone.
The west end of Belleville is basically like East St. Louis (a bordering city that is ridden with crime, drugs, unemployment, gangs). The problem I have with Belleville now is that the surrounding "hoods" have scared off all the decent citizens. Now its low-lifes that move to Bellevile because the property values are down thanks to the imported crime. Belleville is basically infected with a cancer that is spreading west to east and no one will stop it. Most dont try. They see the writting on the wall and move out. I know I will be as soon as I can afford to.
I would reccomend O'fallon or Troy. O'fallon would be my first choice, Troy the second. Troy will give you more of that "country" small town feel. O'fallon is a little more busy with higher taxes. Shiloh is good too if you live in the newer parts. Stay away from the Glen Addie and Richland Prarie neighborhoods if you choose Shiloh. those two neighborhoods account for 80% of the crime in Shiloh. That was told to me by the Chief of police himself.

I think your posting about the wrong state. This is Belleville, NJ referred to in this thread.

Excellent observation, I didn't even notice the posting time.
Anyway, regarding Belleville, NJ, I'm not a fan. There are better places to live in Essex County. Try Nutley, it's right next to Belleville and much nicer.

I grew up in Belleville and moved to South Jersey. My cousin just sold her house in Bellevile because the schools are terrible and she relocated to Wayne. If you have no children and plan on not having any you are better off moving closer to the HighSchool it's not bad. Stay away from Washington Avenue and the Silver Lake section of Belleville. Hope this helps..

Agreed. Everyone I knew in Belleville has moved out save one person who can not unload her condo. The realtors told them it is now basically a "step up" town from Newark or Jersey City. The schools are AWFUL.

LOL actually - you are right! Only I think it's already spread from West to East in our version.
