under 25 working at Morristown where should I live?
Hi Everyone,
I tried to search but didn't get the answer I was looking for. I'm relocating to NJ for work and I would like to live somewhere that is close to Morristown. My requirements are as follows:
1. 1 bedroom/1 bath lease with rent that is under $1400/mo not incl. utilities.
2. close to an area that is safe and within walking distance to a grocery store and NJ transit (convenient location.)
3. I don't plan on getting a car for the first year and prefer to live somewhere that is like Hoboken but cheaper. (I would also consider a car if the area is cheap and convenient)
I can't think of anything else at the moment. Any cities that you guys could point me to would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The only thing I can suggest is trying Morristown itself. There isn't much of Hoboken living out here in rural Morris Cnty. To be able to get all you want in walking distance, you maybe limited. It takes me 10 mins by car to get to my supermarket (this was a HUGE adjustment for me when I moved out here). Morristown is kind of our cultural, happening, urban kind of town out here. You can definitely walk to stores, restaurants/bars, Public Trans there...there are some sketchy parts but there are some really nice parts as well. I think you haven't gotten much response because it's a tough one. Morris Cnty is known for it's mountains & wide open spaces....good luck!!

What about Orange? South Orange? Around the Mountain NJTransit station? How is that area in terms of safety and convenience? For the price of the area, having a car is a very viable option for me.
Also, I forgot to mention that a 30min NJTransit commute to Morristown would be ok for me. Thanks!

Reason: added commute time

I'm confused....you're 25 and will be working in Morristown? Can't imagine why you'd want to live anywhere else BUT Mo'town. You will not be dissapointed.

I am relocating from Los Angeles and I haven't the slightest clue what Morristown is like. I heard its a very old (historical) city and is boring? How far from the truth is this?
If its a nice place for someone under 25 then I'm sold. Thanks!

I know of two 20-somethings who each live separately in Morristown. They love it. He works locally and she commutes to Manhattan. They each have room mates.

it's way far from the truth. well, sort of. yes, there are old buildings but there are a bunch of bars right in the center of town (called 'the green') that is very popular with the mid-20's crowd, and you can walk to them all if you are living near the green. lot's of great restaurants and the community theatre has some good concerts now and then. really, you'll like it.
