I'm thinking your area and mine are similar- the farther from large bodies of water you get (and to some degree the higher the elevation) the less of an issue mosquitos seem to be. I found them to be much worse at my mother's in Toms River than at my brother's in Branchburg.
I disagree Bob..I'm in the valley..very wet area out here..alot of swamps, marshes, wetlands and I just got my first bite! I think the illegals are catching them all and turning them into stew.
But I do not live near water, I'm in the Woodbridge area and still getting eatin alive. Does that Avon SSS work to repel the bugs and what do you guys put on once bitten?

Never tried SSS but once biten..the NJ thing to do is - put and "X" across the bite with your finger nail.. - I have no idea why our parents taught us this but I have a feeling we all still do it! Am I correct?

A friend told me he scratches it open and put something on it. I never heard about the "X" across the bite but that may be like scratching it open as the same. I tried hydrocortisone but its not working.
I live on the tip of northern Barnegat Bay and the bugs that are down by LEH are not bad up here. We get an occasional green head and the no see ums for a couple of weeks in the spring about 7 to 8 at night if no breeze is around. The reason for this is most areas are developed. Down in LEH you have square miles of marshland. Don't worry winter is in 5 months then you can go out.

was recently in Sea Isle City NJ where we have a summer home. I was bitten by the green flies many times on my feet and legs. Does any one have a quick fix on the itching they cause. It is driving me crazy. I have treid solarcaine, lanacane, caladryl amd rubbing alcohol
I got bit by one of those greenhead carnivorous flies when I was down the shore as a child. I swear to god there's still a chunk of skin missing where the SOB bit me.
