As a resident of Paterson I would say don't invest your money in those condos. This town has gone down the tubes and the riff raff has now begun to infiltrate the nice areas of Paterson. Unless there is a major over haul of all the trashy people that live in Paterson, you will continue to see homeowners trying to flee. The condos are a good price but I just can't see anyone wanting to move here. Also just because they are near a police station does not mean the area is safe. There are bums, crackheads, and hookers hanging/walking around downtown at night. Be prepared for property taxes to increase once again next year since the city has to pay back a $700,000 grant they misused. Also they are known for missing deadlines when applying for state money so be prepared to see a tax hike to compensate for their stupidity.
As the saying goes for Paterson- "Bring us your welfare cases, section 8 skanks, drug addicts, and crack dealers, we'll find a "desirable" place for them. And please don't complain about the lack of activities for your child in Paterson because when there is a PTA meeting only about 5 parents show up. The poor high school teachers are afraid to step foot in the schools and they dare not attempt to call a parent when the child misbehaves because the parent will want to fight the teacher as well, and that's if they can get them to even show up!!!
Sorry for the rant and semi off topic response..but if you really have your heart set on those condos nothing can change your mind.
If you want to move to Paterson..research West Paterson..nice neighborhood..not sure about the school system. Otherwise, bad move and area to invest..very bad idea.

If that new NJ transit Light Rail rolls through Paterson, you'll be shocked on how that area would look in 10-15 years. I personally believe that you're seeing the rebirth of this old town. These condos are being converted from old mills ( not projects like the fomer poster said) and I think it could be a strong sale. A lot of NYers I know are actually eyeing Paterson. This city is cheep ( by NY standards), close to Manhattan, and still unspoiled wilh that old, gritty feel. ( IE, yuppies haven't over flown the area.) Back to the Light Rail, NJ Transit just approve a link from the Main Line to I believe the Hudson Line. It is going to be maybe 8 or 9 stops long, with the majority being in Paterson. If that happens, I think a transit village will pop up around that area. Paterson has so much potential, and as a NYer, I think Paterson could be the next Williamsburg, Brooklyn; Long Island City, Queens, or maybe even the next Lower East Side.
I dont think paterson is so dangerous like some people say, i mean its not safe either, alot of these people on here are afraid of hackensack so hearing a lot of people's prespective on whats a good area is whack. Some expect you to get some area where you can never afford, like what you heard here, West paterson... No theres nothing there at 140,000
but Paterson..I mean it's not a great area, but i guess its decent, as long as you dont have kids and your putting them in a public school, i think your fine.
