Please tell me about BORDENTOWN
I've been offered a job in Bordentown and know nothing about the area. I am in Southern California. Searching for housing on Craigslist produces no results. Is Bordertown considered "central" NJ? Nice place? Thank you for your input!

South Jersey but on the cusp of central NJ. Average town, not horrible, not great. Decent downtown area which people find attractive. Not a bad location, can get to Philly and NYC fairly easily and you'll have easy access to 295 and New Jersey Turnpike.

Bordentown is very nice. It has made some real improvements over the years. Bordentown City is the historic part of the town. Filled mostly with row homes, and the main street through the city (Farnsworth Avenue) has some cute shops and restaraunts.
Personally, I would prefer to live in Bordentown Township. There are a couple of newer Developments - Clifton Mills is very nice with large single family homes and townhomes. The Grande at Crystal Lake is also nice, but more of a "cookie cutter" look. The older developments are nice too, it all just depends on what your looking for. I can help answer any of your questions. I live in the next town over, Chesterfield, which is also very nice. Do you have kids? Schools are good in Bordentown. Again, they have made some big improvements over the last several years.
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask!

No, its not. Trenton is Mercer County. Bordentown is Burlington County. There is a part of Bordentown that meets up with Trenton at South Broad Street and 206, but there are no houses or anything: it doesn't even look bad there. Just some business and such. No worries.

I am coming into the area next week from RI to interview with Princeton. From what I've read Bordentown seems like a nice area. I am 38 and am just wondering if there is a significant young professional community in the town. Low crime I assume? No worries? How far to Princeton? Close to cultural events, cities?
Also, has anyone heard of The Village at Bordentown. Plan to look at it for rent. If anyone has any other suggestions for rental I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Is it just me or has there been a spate of posts recently by people moving to NJ from other states for work?

I don't know Bordentown well, but i've been to the downtown area once or twice for dinner, and i'll give you my impressions:
The downtown area, particularly Farnsworth Avenue (the main street), is quite attractive, though not fancy/wealthy. I congratulate whoever was responsible for restoring the area, as i suspect that they didn't have the resources that some other cute towns nearby (Princeton, Pennington, Cranbury) have had. There doesn't seem to be a significant college, corporate, or government presence in town, nor an craft/artists' community. I didn't notice any music venues. Trenton is such a failure as a hub city that Bordentown can't have benefited much from its proximity (about 10 miles).
The charm is partly in its historical character, and partly in its small, walkable/livable dimensions. It seems more blue-collar than white, a comfortable, relaxing kind of place, a little off the beaten track, with (probably) a good sense of community. There is no noisy highway running through the center of town, although there are two or three just outside. I've heard that the Chambersbug (Italian) section of Trenton has deteriorated markedly; maybe Bordentown replaces it.
As for the surrounding areas: central New Jersey's suburbs are notable for their lack of character and personality.
