What about Lake Hopatcong, anyone been there?

Wiley is right about Lake Hopatcong. Lake Hopatcong is my old stomping grounds. On the weekends the sign on Rt 80 tells you when the park is full so you dont bother getting off the highway. The sign says full at 5:30 AM on weekends. And every single car, bar none are NYers. Dont they have their own damn beachs? Stay at Jones Beach and stop trashing NJs.
Then on Sunday night when they all go home it looks like a nuclear disaster hit the place. As you know NJ removed their garbage cans from State parks about 15 years ago and hand you a plastic bag when you pay the entrance fee. They tell you to take your own garbage with you. Yea right......that'll work.
Anyway, no more bad mouthing Lake Hopatong. I love the lake more then you can imagine. Kept my boat on it for 9 years docked at Barns Bros. If you go on any week day but Tuesday the beach will be pretty empty. Tuesday is free day in all NJ state parks (has that changed)? And when that magic word FREE rears its ugly head then you can just see the mass exit of the welfare people from NY. It takes a day for the park crews to clean up when they leave so Wed. is not such a good day to go either.
I dont think I seen ayone mention Waywayanda yet. That was my favorite small lake. I car-topped it up there many times for the Bass fishing. Oxford Furnace, Round Valley and Spruce Run were always favorites for clean beaches. The NYers seem to crap up RV and SR but never could quite find Oxford.
What is that new one...well it ain't new anymore, in Winsor or East Winsor off 195? That was clear water with a huge beach.
How about the Delaware Water Gap? Beautiful scenery and rushing clean water on sandy beaches. And the Small Mouth Bass fishing is second to none. Washington State Park right along the river south of the Gap has nice beaches too.
Want salt water but you said the kids cant take the waves? Try Sandy Hook on the Bay side. As long as it's not Clamming season that side is not crowded.
