Where in north jersey? Some providers have deals for a DSL/home phone combo (though I wouldn't recommend Verizon's DSL, its terrible, and gives DSL a bad name), or you may opt for internet service from comcast or time warner and use vonage or another ip-based service.
Also, whether or not dial-up service is all you're looking for.
