I just started a new job in north NJ. Where should I live, NJ or NY? I like to discuss the state income and property taxes. I heard NJ has a high tax, how about NY. Any comment is appreciated.
i know NJ is a small state, but you need to share exactly where you're working - Northern NJ encompasses a large area. also, what's your budget for a house, commuting requirements, schools a priority, etc etc etc etc...

Close to NYC...great school systems... low taxes... under 250K.... YAWN! Nothing personal OP..it's just the usual response we get when we ask that question. Am I far off?
Thanks everybody. I work in Ramsey. My family will move here next summer since my son will have one more year in high school. So school is not very important when I look for housing. I'll buy a house when I feel it is a righ time and place.
JackD ...Stay out of Orange Co. NY taxes are high for what you are getting. Bergen is even worse. If you work in NoJ....you can live in PA. 6% sales tax. Reasonable property tax(don't know the rate..but know people that moved out of OC to pA because of that)......a little rural for me.....but, for family type people...lot of new developement housing around Milford/Matamoras area....Matamoras has great outdoor sports/picnic/camping/fishing area.....WalM/HomeDep/Staples type stores
You get a better bang for your buck in PA....close enough to NJ "entertainment"
I live in over priced sheesy poo poo part of OC just above Bergen...shop in PA and "entertain" in NJ...and get gas in NJ.
