I just graduated from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia and am starting a job where I will be covering a territory of Wal-Mart accounts in North Jersey and New York (including the city and Long Island). I recently looked into New Brunswick but it seems that most places are ripping me off. I am wondering if anybody can suggest a fun area that might not be too expensive. I am very outgoing but am unfamiliar with the area so I definitely want to live somewhere with a decent nightlife. I also looked into Hoboken but because I am living alone the prices are just unrealistic. I also need a place that is close to a major highway since I will be doing so much driving. I appreciate any and all help/suggestions.
New Brunswick makes the most sense for you. You have Rutgers and a college crowd. Just find an apt in a quieter area like Piscataway which is decent enough for a single recent grad only 15 minutes from NB.

Montclair, Morristown..all good spots for a young, sngle, professional : )
I have been told that Jersey City is the next "place to be" for the next generation "young professional". It is very affordable (by current New York standards) and the commute into Manhattan is 1/2 hour. This very profile was convincing enough for me to invest in 2 Jersey City condo's. My bachelor brother is living right next to the Grove Street Path, great location in Jersey City however if you want to have a car, it will cost you for parking. He loves it there, but mostly hangs out in NYC.
Montclair and Morristown are a good bet like the previous poster recommends. My friend narrowed his choices down to those 2 towns, (he's a swinging bachelor but in his forties) I'm a mother of 2, so my nightlife is limited, the closest nightlife kinda towns are Millburn, Summit or Westfield. Great towns too..
