My husband and I are looking for a home in NJ. We currently live in NY (Long Island) and are moving because of my husband's long commute to NJ (Secaucus). Can anyone recommend a town with good schools (very important) and an easy commute for my husband. Our price range is $500k-$600k.

Livingston maybe? I see alot of people recommending that area - good schools and short commute.

You could also check out Montclair. While the commute will be shorter than from LI, you would still deal with traffic heading east into the city.

Nutley is a friendly community with easy access to Secaucus, what grades are your children attending?

Can't get any closer than Rutherford for the commute as well as blue ribbon school districts.

Now, why didn't I think of that? Rutherford is a great town

Thanks! Are these towns (Nutley, Montclair and Rutherford) family oriented towns? My children are going into the 5th and 8th grades.

Add Hasbrouck Heights to your list. Short commute to Secaucus from Rt. 17 to Rt. 3.

There are several threads that go in depth about rutherford, do a quick search and you will see for yourself. Overall it is a very safe town (I live here and I have spoken to several cops about this). It has a downtown where all the kids hang out (park ave).

Absolutely. I've lived in Montclair and Rutherford, and taught in Nutley. If I'm not mistaken, Rutherford would be the shortest commute followed by Nutley.
