drive in's were strange. great place to double date and be seen. girls were really exciting. lots wanted to get married and get on with their lives late part of hi school. so stuff happened. they got pregnant married and divorced while i was watchin, kind of like some sort of puberty scary parade. i remained single a long time and fell out of popularity fast as my friends got married and produced babies not necessarily in that order.
I use to love to go to the drive-in movies. We were searching for a place that we could go to tonight..how cool would it be to watch a movie and see all the fireworks going off around you : )) The closest one for us northern NJians is in Warwick, NJ - Just over the jersey border. I think this would be a great thing to do, especially if you have kids. Let them talk about drive-in movies to their kids when they get older before they ALL disappear . Here's the info. and it looks like Wall e is playing : ))

I was a kid when I experienced my first drive-in movie. I think it was in Elmwood Park, NJ. We had gone to see the opening of Halloween.
Yes, I miss drive-in movies. I just wonder if all the SUVs and Hummers today would block the movie screen for people at a drive-in who sit in normal cars.
I used to love the drive inn movies as a kid-wore my pj's, played on the swings before the movie, etc. I have such fond memories and for a family with not a lot of $$ it was affordable back then. I loved going to the one off of Rt 37 in Toms River. I remember being so sad when it shut down and they built a bunch of houses on it
I'm just thinking though- how many of us could sit in the car for two hours without the AC on and watch a movie? There's only a very short timeframe in NJ where the weather would be decent enough for that to work. When we were younger and drive-ins were popular, many cars didn't have AC, and we didn't seem to be such primadonnas as a society- I can see where they wouldn't be as popular now.

Ahhh but Bob - they sell little battery operated air conditioning units now for your car : ) I believe the original intention for the invention was for your pets - if you left them in the car. But they stopped marketing it as that because as we all know..leaving your pets..or children in the car unattended is against the law nowadays! Which is a great thing IMO
