Oh T...and you call yourself a Jerseyite!!! You must go before they all close down..take hubby and the kids this weekend - you'll love it and so will they. It'll be like a slumber party in the car.
We used to go to the Rt.3 drive in. It was located on the other side of Rt.3 from where Giants Stadium is. Also the Manahawkin drive-in was located on Rt. 72 east on the way to LBI. Just jump in the trunk and your admission was free.

lol..been there, done that! One time, the line was so long that they forgot I was back there. The speakers in the car were missing off the back window ledge... I reached up and grabbed someone sitting in the back seat...and boy did they ****e themselves!!! Ahhh..those were the days
Thanks Wileynj, I checked out the link, and the place is just way too far.
I wonder how the ones that are still open are? I mean times have changed.
They must have more rules these days as well.
Drive-ins were before my time but I have always wanted to go to one to see what it would be like as I think it would be pretty fun. The problem that I experienced when looking was the fact that most of them were in the middle of nowhere and too far away. And the ones that I thought of attending looked a little "rough" to say the least. I would hate to be in those areas at night.
I remember in the late 70's going to Newton drive-in and then Ledgewood drive-in a few nights later to catch a different movie. My favorite is Warwick because they have the 3 screens and if you are not into one movie you can watch a different one. I now live in Florida and when we come to NJ to visit family we always make a trip to Warwick and so now my kids have all gotten the experience too. Ahhh, memories..

We used to be Drive In junkies! We had the Laurelton Drive In in our hometown (Brick). We used to go to the ones in Toms River (Rt 37), the Brielle Circle, the Collingswood Circle, the Eatontown Circle, the one at Monmouth Airport, and later in the 80's the only one left was the Rt 35 Drive In up in Hazlet.
And yes, I remember sneaking a peak at the drive in screen by the GS Parkway Bridge in Sayreville as we came home from visiting relatives. (Anyone else remember that Dutch Boy paint billboard at the bridge with the digital clock on it? )
