EliseinNY is on a distinguished road
Default Good school districts for inclusion of HFAutism kids

Hello. We are looking to relocate to NJ with a child who has high functioning autism. He has been mainstreamed for a full day in kindergarten and will be this year in first grade as well. He does this with the support of a 2:1 aide and a consulting teacher pushing in 3x a week for a half hour. This is in a regular classroom. I think that he would also do OK in a collaborative classroom without the aide, as he only needs the aide sporadically. His academic functioning is ahead of grade level.

Does anyone have experience with school districts in NJ that have good inclusion practices? Anyone have any information about the Princeton area? My husband works in NYC so we can't go too far south....

ALL information is greatly appreciated. thank you.

Elise

Oakview school in Bloomfield might work for you. It's an easy commute to NYC. If you do decide to look into it, call the Board of Ed to discuss your options. I've had a good experience with the Special Ed dept in Bloomfield.
