A lot of people who don't live here stereotype NJ as being full of "only factories" or "an industrial wasteland". I find it funny because I believe around 80% of NJ is picture perfect suburbs, around 10% shore towns, and than the next 10% small ghetto cities. NJ isn't called the Garden State for nothing, it is really beautiful in most of NJ so why do people continue to think we all live by power plants?

I guess it could be because those who are/were not home grown Jersians or don't have family here to stay and visit with only DO get to see the Turnpike when travelling through to another destination. It IS funny when you drive around and see all the farmland and open spaces and the beautiful side of NJ to know that we are considered the "armpit" of America. The beauty and serenity just doesn't jive with the pre-conceived ideas that have been mentioned by "comedians" or in movies, sitcoms, etc.
There should be a bridge somewhere in this state that says "NJ makes, the rest of the country can shut up already".

Simple answer...Newark Airport! All visitors come through Newark and all they see..and smell! are factories, oil refineries, conjested highways. If they only knew what was just 10 minutes west and south... they would be trying to take over our beautiful State!!!
maybe because mtv airs morons like tommy cheeseballs.....have u seen this guy on you tube??is sooo embarrassing....i kinda like being the butt of jokes..it gives me an edge. i used to say when i was in florida..."you will have to pardon me..i havent yet washed the jersey off me" when i had a 'tude lol!
