Red face relocating bergen county area- Help!

Hi, my husband, children and I are relocating to NJ in August. He will be working in Bergen County and we are looking for suggestions of places to live that are within 45min to an hour of the Englewood Cliffs area. Our budget is low compared to some other posts I've read-- we are looking to find a house in the 300-350K range in an area with good schools. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

North - go over the NJ/NY border and check out the area around New City, NY. Not sure if prices will be in budget. Northwest - go up RT4/208/287 into Wanaque, Ringwood, Haskell, and maybe Riverdale (not Rivervale). Again not sure if prices will be in budget.

For a town in Bergen County with decent schools and a home to house a family you are looking at 1/2M +. Buyers market? Bergen's still a sellers market.

i agree with spincycle. it's going to be extremely difficult to find something in your price range within bergen county, especially if you're looking at single family detached houses as opposed to, say, townhouses or condos.

passaic county is generally a lot cheaper than bergen county, and the northern passaic towns such as ringwood and wanaque would seem to be good matches, as already mentioned. also look in ny state: specifically, northern rockland county around the palisades parkway as well as along the I-87/rt. 17/rt. 17A corridor in orange county.

i grew up in hasbrouck heights which was pretty nice, and they may have some housing in your price range, not sure though, also you may want to search threads with "hasbrouck" as there is some more recent opinions on the schools

thanks for the info- we agree with your assessment of Bergen county. We were thinking more Union, Passaic, Morris etc.

Hackensack (some areas arent great), Lyndhurst, Rutherford, little ferry, cliffside park, ridgefield park, Maywood, Hasbrouck Heights, South Hackensack, and Rochelle Park are the best bets in Bergen with price and schooling.
Maybe try going to Hudson County like Seacacus. Maybe in NY to like Yonkers, but that risky because of the GWB everyday for a commute

i wish you luck tho!

Not likely you'll find a nice house in that range in Rutherford. Maybe a fixer.

You might try Fairlawn. I just looked at the mls and there's a number of 3 br houses in your range. They appear to be well kept.
