Default Need Your Advise for SOMERVILLE location! South Bridge Gardens!

Hi,

My girlfriend and I are most likely moving into Somerville (signing the lease on Saturday). The only thing is I don't feel too comfortable with the exact location. I absolutely love the Main Street area (especially the record store!) and from what I've read in previous posts the nightlife and summer events sound great!

Now to where I am living... our apartment is located in the South Bridge Gardens. If you are familar with Somerville, it is right off Holly Glenn Rd. Our complex area is right across the street from 2nd and 3rd Street (which I have read previously are bad areas). My girlfriend and I are both in our mid 20s. We would like to know that if we wanted to walk to a restaurant on Main Street and have a few drinks we wouldn't have to worry about our safety on the walk home.

Has anyone here lived in the South Bridge Apartments? Or near the area I described above? I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts... Thanks so much!

any updates on how your living arrangements are working out so far? I am also in my mid twenties looking to move in to this complex with my girl friend. Is it safe, clean, nice, etc? Any updates would be greatly appreciated!

I lived in the apartments and have a few things to add. My 1 bedroom Apartment was very nice and the size was good. I especially loved that it had hardwood floors and a large bedroom. However, I was only able to stay a short time because I had some problems with the place. The major issue, is that the building controls the heat during the winter and the tenants have no control whatsoever. The apartment gets so hot that it melts chocolate in minutes and although I became used to it after a while, I could never have guests over because they would be very uncomfortable. It got up to 90 degrees easily and I would have to open all the windows in the middle of winter to get any relief, but that did not help on the days that reached only 50 degrees. (Not cool enough outside to cool the apt). The other major issue is only valid for first floor apartments. The Boiler which is underneath the building is so loud that I have to turn my tv all the way up sometimes to hear it. Again, I became used to it. But guests said it was annoying. It also shook the entire apartment. (For instance I had to make sure that none of my drinking glasses in the cabinet were touching or it would make noise all day from the vibration. Some good things were that I rarely ever heard my neighbors upstairs, but sometimes there were disturbances outside in the area of the apartments. Fights etc. Laundry is a pain as there are no machines in the apartment, but there is a coin laundry room on the complex. (I recommend going to a laundromat instead) because the apartment laundry machines require more money to operate than normal laundromats and the machines are always busy there. Don't worry, there are tons of laundromats in the area. Somerville Laundromat is pretty good and the machines clean wash and dry well. The apartment complex is very close to downtown Somerville and is within walking distance of all the shops and restaraunts but I don't recommend walking at night unless you are in a group or with someone else. Although the apartment complex feels very safe and alot of nice families live there, it's not far from the bad part of Somerville. The Super is nice and her husband does all the maintenance around the place. They are usually pretty good if you need something, but I think sometimes they forget things. The only other complaint I think I would have is the parking lot. The spaces are kind of small, so if you have a small car, you might be ok, but the cars are all parked VERY close together. Watch out for door dings. During the winter, they are pretty quick with snow and ice removal so no worries there. I would love to hear about other peoples experiences if they have any.

Default Horrible experience

I have been living in the South Bridge Garden apartments for more than 8 months now. huh !! what a mistake to sign a 1 yr lease. The apartment building is very old and other than the most common problem with not able to control the heat, I had a terrible experience with a water seepage problem in the apartment.

When I noticed the water seepage, I quickly reported it to the local Supridendent, Kathy, but she didn't take proper actions to fix this resulting in NO actions for several weeks. Ultimately I reached out to the apaprtment management, Rosko Phil Real Estate with a written notice and got it fixed. One bedroom was completly unusable for 4 months because of the seepage problem and the maintenence activities. Though the management was forced to fix the issue because of a written notice from me, I found that the apaprtment management is extremly unprofessional and very difficult to deal with.

I will never advise anyone to get an apartment in South Bridge Gardens.

Folks, look around there are beautiful apartments in somerville, but do not come to South Bridge Gardens. I hope to get through rest of my 1 yr lease.
