Both towns have a lot in common. I have lived in both towns and I like Nutley better. I think Nutley is a prettier town. Has a nice park that runs through the whole town.
Nutley definitely has better schools. Lyndhurst has a train into Hoboken, which is convenient for NYC commuters.
Both towns have a very large Italian-American population. So that means great food in both towns.
Anything specific you want to know?

I have to think the taxes in Lyndhurst(Bergen CO) will be a much better deal than Nutley(Essex CO)

Of course. Essex Co. taxpayers get to pay for the sins of that ghetto wasteland.

I'm not sure if it's that or Essex Co itself but I know Essezx taz rates definitely tend to be higher than Bergen.

I concur, this is true.

Lyndhurst is also closer to stadium and arena in Meadowlands. Nutley used to have a train into Hoboken. I understand the state looked at bringing it back recently (in some capacity) but the townspeople shot it down, were very against it (aka NIMBY).

Let's hope and pray they stay like this for decades and generations to come.

I lived in Nutley in the past and have family in Lyndhurst now.
I would say overall Nutley is a better town. It is prettier, has a nicer shopping district (although it's not as nice as it used to be), the schools are much better, most of the homes are nicer. I can't say by anything other than my own observation, but I think there are more single family homes in Nutley...there are definately nicer homes overall in Nutley.
Lyndhurst is a little grittier than Nutley. The schools are not as good, but Lyndhurst does have a lot of very nice activities for it's citizens. It has a lovely Park that was just redone (New Town Hall Park) and a great Shop Rite! LOL! (Although many prefer Nutley Shop Rite, but I don't!)
They do have similarities though - mostly the ITALIANS. LOL
The taxes are high in Nutley - it's not only because of Newark because Nutley taxes tend to be highter than other homes in Essex, suburban Essex too...

Really?? After just having been through buying a home, I found that Nutley taxes were a heck of a lot better that either Montclair or Glen Ridge ... both of which are right next door. Houses were comparable, at least in the range we were looking. We ended up in the Hartford section of Cambridge Heights and pay multi-thousands less than comparable housing in Glen Ridge or Upper Montclair.
