I disagree.

For Morris County try looking at Chatham and Madison. In Bergen County take a look at Glen Rock and perhaps Rutherford. Good schools, expedient commuting to the city and frequent train service 7 days per week. Hope this helps.
You can do far better than Rutherford if you are looking for strong schools in Bergen... Rutherford may be a bit better in Southern Bergen County... but not in the county as a whole.

Budget will determine, but towns like Tenafly and Demarest have excellent schools...but you are going to pay for them. Not as familiar with the commute to NY. Hillsdale is a nice town with a nice family feel to it and a train station for a better commute - schools are pretty good too, as is neighobring Woodcliff Lakes.

Bergen has some nice towns, but they are pricey. You may get a little more for your $ elsewhere, but you'll have more of a commute as well.

Montclairs schools are only so-so, many there send their kids to private schools.

If you can go up to 2.0 million you can consider towns in Bergen. Ridgewood is well known for it's excellent schools, relative ease in commuting and a very nice downtown. It's pricey, but you can do it with your price range.

You may also want to consider Wyckoff, although the commute may be rougher from there. Also Allendale, Tenafly... there are several.

If you are on the Waldwick side of Wyckoff I think you can park and ride their train (i.e. the Waldwick train) quite easily to NYC.

Boston to NY huh? I advise you if you like the Red Sox to keep your mouth shut. I grew up in NJ as a Red Sox fan for 3 decades. I always shut my mouth. Those NY fans can be brutal and hateful. You know what Im talking about.

Good luck to you my friend.

Ok back to finding you a house....................
