Yes, it's worth something- call a local scrap yard and they'll give you the current price per pound. Are we talking about 5 pounds of scrap, or 5,000 pounds of scrap?

Stainless Steel Scrap Metal Prices - 18-8, 304, 316, 409, 410 and 430

looks like wholesale is ~50 cents a pound? Dern thing does not give all context. WOW looks like scrap plain steel is 8 cents a pound! That is very very high though it sounds like nothing.

$0.50 is about the going rate for magnetic stainless. Take a magnet to it-if it doesn't stick it's worth a bit more-maybe $0.60 depending on the yard. Non magnetic stainless has a higher nickel content and is harder which makes it more valuable.

Yep, scrap prices in general are through the roof due to demand from China and India. I've been able to make anywhere from $80-100 bucks every time I visit the local scrap yard.

Badfish...I think you and CuCullin are twins..lol : ) You'll make great pals and neighbors as you both think alike and have similiar interests. Steel is through the roof - alot to do with the war in Iraq as well - needing steel to make more amo!

Come on.....ammo is brass casings and copper-jacketed lead bullets (or depleted uranium for the armor piercing stuff). Even if all of the ammo was 100% steel, it'd still be a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of scrap thats being shipped to China right now- hell, I'll even let you melt sown every tank, plane, and rifle we have in Iraq right now, and I bet you still couldn't come close.

Sending mucho Silver Bullets to the Iraqis may be one way to stop the fighting. 1) Good way to make friends, and 2) If they can't walk, they can't fight!
