How about that Mayor Pringle???
![]() Even the Belmar community is ashamed of his ridiculous comments. Going back to a previous thread about favorite sayings-If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything! |

I see some truth in his comments. Being from Italian heritage I notice the younger guys with their blown out hair, fake tans, and terrible mouths all the time, especially down the Shore. These kids are an absolute embarrassment due to their actions and attitudes.
Now, I have several Staten Island friends and I can tell you that while most of them are good people, there seems to be a higher percentage of goons living on the Island. Unfortunately, these goons are the ones coming to the Shore and treating it like their personal toilet and garbage can, but the mayor shouldn't blame one area such as Staten Island because it seems that the guidos roam in large herds throughout North Jersey, NYC, and Long Island. Television shows such as Growing Up Gotti give the young minds the idea that it's ok to act like a moron. |

Were the Mayor's comments over the top? Yes. Were they totally without merit? No. The Jersey Shore may be overpriced in a lot of ways, but it doesn't give tourists (myself included) to run roughshod over the towns either. It seems that the attitude of many folks of late is such that they believe they should be able to pinch a loaf on the front porch of a shore rental and receive a word of thanks from the owner simultaneously. Just because tourism is the lifeblood of the town, tourists do not have the right to act like animals.

Take the Browns to the Superbowl? Drop anchor? Burn a mule? Launch a steamer? Work the terd cutter? Either way, I wouldn't do it on a porch.... That said, Belmar's laws are ridiculous. No, people shouldn't be blasting music at 3am or throwing beer bottles in the street, but Belmar goes WAY beyond the basics, into obscene levels of law. I no longer visit. |

Regarding Belmar...when I was 22/23 I rented there and had a ball. However, this was when the WHOLE TOWN was young kids partying, and I don't recall ever getting noise violations. Now that more families have moved in, I can understand how these families feel. Now I prefer Spring Lake, Cape May, Sea Girt, with an occasional trip to Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant. But the point is, we have 120 miles of beaches, let these party animals have somewhere to party. They just need to be more respectful. It tends to be the Staten island guys/gals that give NJ a bad name. People think that they are the Jersey people, but in reality they are the NY people. |
