Is Montclair extremely liberal?
So on this website that I was reading through, they listed the most liberal cities in each state and in NJ it is Montclair. I was just wondering if it is as liberal as the site says and if nearby Clifton is as well. Maybe I'll move there one day.

Where is this site? I want to check it out!
Well, I have always felt that Montclair was among the more liberal of the "monied" towns in NJ. I mean, you are NOT going to find too many liberals in Franklin Lakes now are you? LOL So it does not shock me. Montclair has a certain "open minded" feel to go along with its SUPER high taxes. lol

Oh. Well that's cool. I've always wanted to move to somewhere near NYC but that's not too expensive. I figured NJ would be cheaper but wasn't sure if it would be as liberal. I also found a cool map of the percentage of Jews in every county. Looks like that area has a lot of Jews as well (I'm Jewish).

For a town with as much money as it has, I find Montclair very liberal ( think it's a really nice town, BTW). To me, the question about Clifton is different because it isn't really 'that' fantastic of a town. Clifton is very mixed (which isn't a negative in my book), and also has some crappy sections. I'd say by default it is sort of liberal.

If you are going from NYC to NJ and want a town with that feel, Montclair is an excellent choice for you. I have always really loved the town. It's diverse, artsy, has life...although I've heard that there have been a lot of business closings on Bloomfield Ave, I have not been there in a while so I can't say personally. Any one out there know about that?

Some people there don't mind and actually enjoy paying the high taxes. Its a good town in some aspects.

It's probably more democrat and old school working class than "liberal". You can live on the Montclair side of town by MSU and save some money (and you can literally be in Montclair).

It's an odd ball place IMO. Urban touch (inner-city slant) on one side, lots of rich, liberal, NYC transplants (on other side), and an ACLU presence IIRC some time ago too.

When im in montclair (upper whatever you want to call it) it feels like money, if that makes sense...Maplewood doesnt feel like that to me. Im sure many there are well off but it doesnt feel like rich as much as it does in montclair

Montclair is definitely liberal. No comparison to Clifton in any way.

Yes, spincycle worded it much better than me - Clifton is very working class, as a whole (except for the section near Montclair). To say liberal would imply something different. Democrat-type town at best.
