Unfortunately, Ron Paul ran as a republican. I think he would have done better as a third party candidate.

This election year, there is Bob Barr (former fed prosecutor, congressman (r)) from the libertarian party. I'm not a fan of him though, because of his previous stance's on same-sex marriage (god I hate the term marriage in the fed... anywho), abortion, the war, etc.

Other prominent (non-socialist, fascist, etc) candidates include Alan Keyes, Nader, Cynthia McKinney, Chuck Baldwin, and Charles Jay. There is, imho, no strong third party candidate this election year.

And you really think any of these candidates will do any more than McCain or Obama would do? I seriously doubt that they would....

:P

I see Obama as nothing more than making good speeches his positions have no viable substance.

McCain sucks too, but right now, he's my "lesser of the two evils". I may vote Libertarian though to show my support of the third party, or write myself in.

Some one must want it. You have 2 useless as a box of rocks clowns spending more then a billion dollars each to win a job that pays $400,000.

Why do we have 50 Miss America contestants running for Miss America and all are great choices yet we have just 2 useless bums running for the most powerful position on earth and they both suck?

About $6 billion has been spent so far on just campaigning by the 3 clowns. More then a hundred billion spent so far by the lobbiests trying to get their buddies elected.

What else could America spend that kind of money on to make this a great country? Free health care for every man woman and child? Free college education for every American who wants it? No more hunger? Cure cancer? Create enough jobs to set the unemployment rate to zero?

What will any of them do for New Jersey? I guarentee you neither of them even care that NJ is a state.

Some of them would. I have not been a Ron Paul supporter as there are a few things I disagree with him on. However regarding taxes, immigraton, NAFTA and other "free trade" , 2nd amendment and other issues I pretty much agree with him. Barr has some issues I agree with him on but could not vote for him based on immigration. Baldwin I agree with him on some things but not all. I like many of Alan Keyes' issues however he loses me on choice and a few other issues. I actually had the pleasure of meeting him a few times in NH. Not that it would be a reason for voting for him, but he was a very nice man and it was a great conversation.

None of these above candidiates are perfect but neither are Obama or McCain. I feel the need to once again vote third party/write in as I have for the past two presidential elections. A great independent candidate will not emerge overnight. That is why IMHO it is important to try and build support for them now so hopefully in the not too distant future, we will have a viable third party. At this point I will either write in Ron Paul or possibly vote for Baldwin but I have a little more research to do on him. Just my .02.

I can see your point - and I also long for a day when we'd have more choice. That said, I don't see how giving my vote to someone with zero chance will help the cause of this (hopefully) future candidate now....

And since I think our country has suffered so badly it is almost incomprehensible under the current administration, I just can not see giving the reigns to McCain who will be more of the same for 4 more years... I think it would be way too detrimental.

Again, just my opinion... that and the Denmark thing!

And then only if he's able to read from a teleprompter. His 40 minute "speech" today was 8 minutes of "ums," "errs," and "ahhs."
