Default Transferring near Fort Dix....

Hello all!
I am in Monmouth county and my husband might get a transfer to Fort Dix from Fort Monmouth.

If he gets the transfer, we most likely move out that way. What are some good areas with good schools, shopping, parks, yet not too crowded? Any suggestions? Price range of $400-$500K for a home....

We would like to start taking some weekend trips out that way to get a feel for the area....

Stick to the Lenape School District...you won't be sorry. Seneca is the newest high school. I lived in Southampton, it was a great place to live, very safe etc. Stores are about 15 to 20 minutes away though depending on where you live there.

How big of a house do you need? One house we looked at in Southampton was nice, on a nice street just off of 206. It was a little small for us, think 4 bedroom 2 bath rancher. Everyone had real pride in their yards, we wanted to move there so bad. I don't think the house has sold.

Get a good agent. Their are many diverse communities there ranging from cheaper homes with cheaper taes to very expensive homes. School districts also vary.

If your husband is going to be stationed at Fort Dix, then consider Northern Burlington School District. It is the district where the kids who live on McGuire/Dix ( a joint base now) attend, and federal money for military kids graciously funds this district. Medford and Seneca areas are wonderful, but are quite a commute, and your children might feel disconnected from other kids who are in a military family. Believe me, the commuting does get old! Also, there are youth centers on Dix/McGuire, something you might check into. If you like a lakefront/lakeview home, there are a few for sale around Country Lakes, Mirror Lake, and Medford Lakes, but the schools for the first two mentioned are in Pemberton District. I can only say after looking at national test scores, we chose not to send our kids there. Shopping, well since that is my 3rd favorite past-time, I would rec. Freehold Mall, Cherry Hill/Centerton Rd, Marlton Crossing(where hwy 73 crosses hwy 70), and the Jackson Outlets ( near six flags). As far as parks, there are a few nice ones on base and Ft. Dix is near the Pinelands National Forest, and there are plenty of trails, and a few nice playgrounds in the area. Plus, with all the lakes around, kayaking, swimming/rubber rafting, and fishing is a breeze. Good luck, its NEVER easy moving, especially when you are a military family!
