I need to commute from Fort Lee to Jersey City for the normal business day. What are my public transportation options? Let's say I am compelled to not drive car into Jersey City every morning, what are the alternatives?

Ultimately I can build a raft and go up and down Hudson river based on the tide schedule.

Thank you for the attention.

Well, you can build a raft as it will most likely be a very stress free commute!

You can drive to the Tonnelle Ave light rail station and take the LR down to JC. You can catch the 751,755,756 buses to North Bergen and transfer to one of a quadrillion buses heading to JC, or you can just drive it and take River Road to Hoboken and pick up Willow from there.

The drive isn't that bad, really. My old dealership is in Englewood and I did that drive many times.

oops, found the website: New Jersey Transit
It suggested Bus 159 - Light rail. Is there any better way?

Where in Jersey City do you need to go? Some of the immi vans go from Fort Lee and Cliffside Park through Jersey City Heights to Journal Square. Some of those vans go to Newport too.

i think light rail is going to be your best option. as another poster mentioned, you can drive to the tonnele ave station and take the train from there, or take the bus to weehawken and then switch to the light rail.

traffic down to jc can be pretty heavy due to both lincoln tunnel and holland tunnel traffic, so i'd definitely go with the train.

but if you want a one-seat ride without transfers, your only option may be those latino shuttle vans. not sure if nj transit has a bus that goes from fort lee all the way down to the exchange place/colgate clock area.

Hi, I'm trying to go from Pal Pk(next to fort lee) to Exchange Place.

What bus can I take to get to the Light Rail?
How much would it cost me (bus + train)?

Have you ever noticed those van buses that say "Bergenline-NewPort-etc." on them? Their route is from JC to Fort Lee (sometimes they also cross the bridge to manhattan). You can jump on one of those and take it all the way to the GW bridge.

Alternatively, it would be faster, but slightly more expensive, to take the light rail to the 48th st. station, then catch a van up to fort lee gwb stop. If I can remember off-hand, they are going to charge like $2.50 on the van and the light rail is 1.90. Since the one-seat ride from JC to FL is something like $4.00, it'd be an extra $.40, but probably 20-30 mins faster if you took the lr-bus route, depending on the time of day.

Also, you might want to ask if they are going to Fort Lee, because some buses do not go the full route (there's a lot more riders along certain parts of the route). If you are on one and it says "last stop" before your stop, don't pay him anything.
