New Jersey's problem is that the people moving in tend to have less money than the people moving out. I believe there was some sort of study done on this. Thus, the middle-class is getting "slightly poorer" as time goes by. This may partly explain NJ's fall from 1st place in the "highest median income by state" rating.

BTW, This is the first time I've been labeled an "extremist"! But I think the point about Mahattan is valid. Where's all the middle-class housing there?

Which explains the outflow of people that one would think the state wants to keep.

Many in the lower income range (70K-100K) seem to have to struggle to simply just own a home.

I love Hillsdale! What county are you in now?
I lived in Paramus until 21, then got married at 28 husband had a house in Hillsdale lived there for 12 years, moved over to Morris COunty now and love it. The only problem in the area I am in is its alot of driving. I am in Jefferson Township, off Route 23 in the Highlands. My goal is to retire more by Harding, or Morris Township or down 202. I am always looking at the areas of Morris County and I am a little out of the loop. It has positive, but it has negitives. So each time I am moving up slowly. Now you think Hillsdale is nice, you know its over crowded, but everything was close. I had an old wreck in Hillsdale when we paid the house off, I dumped it for a better house. So I am looking at the next goal to accomplish. Thank you for asking.

Harding Township is very pricey and Morris Township has taxes that make strong NJ men cry! Start saving or start buying the lottery tickets. You have to be like that old TV commercial- "He's got money coming out the wahzoo"!!

BTW - Glad to hear you're O.K. Now - Stay that way! Promise!!!!

stevemorse - That's what I did - save, save, save! Retired at 51, bought a new house and have been living happily ever after for the last 4 years! They say as you get older, you need less sleep. That's bunk! I'm making up for all those 5-6 hour nights while working and now go to bed at 3 AM and get up at 10:30 AM. I feel like a new person and quit smoking to boot! My dreams are a lot better now too - better than a lot of Paramus residents and businesses having nightmares about their tax bills! I may drop dead one of these days, but I'm going out with a smile on my face! If I don't make 70 tho', I want my "money" back!

I did (and am still doing) the gum. Those patches made me itch! Do it! You'll breathe better. I've gained 10 pounds but I still feel better!

ROFLMAO it sure looks funny to see 100K called anything remotely called lower income range. Its true but just strikes me as funny

>In your opinion, what is the greatest city on the planet?<

In my opinion. Who cares. Having 2 jobs (cross fingers still have both jobs. ANOTHER layoff of people yesterday) and 2 kids means I dont do much besides get up at 445AM and get home at 10:15PM. Its all about supporting my family so you all dont. NJ is about being employed. NJ is a giant suburb of (the giant economic machine that is) NYC. That is what has people here and is the cause of sky high costs.
