I was always told that if I obeyed the laws, I wouldn't have to worry about police ticket frenzies, etc.
And, you know what? I've learned the hard way that it's true!
Since my last interaction with an LEO that netted me a 12 mph over ticket on an interstate, I've slown down and cruise at the speed limit. Guess what? The cops don't even notice me out there anymore.
Hmmm, obey the law; don't get tickets. I kind of like that!

When you get pulled over, it's all about attitude. Cops pull you over for a reason.
Recently, I went through a speed trap at legal speed but I was still pulled over because the cop ran my plate and it came back my registration was expired. This was not true; especially when I gave him the registration that was still in force.
He went back to his car, checked it out, came back, and said, "I entered your plate wrong into my computer. I'm sorry for the delay."
He actually explained and apologized. And I was totally civil with him.
Make the cop's job easier, and he'll be easier on you.

Just came back from shopping in Newton and saw the wierdest thing ever! There was 2 state tropper on the north bound side of rt. 206 and about a 1/4 mile further south there was another 2 cars. Then at the gas station 1/4 mile south of them, there was 3 more State Troopers? We also saw another 4 Town Of Newton Cops driving around! All those cops within 1/2 mile of eachother?? Made no sense! Can't wait for ALex to come back on Monday..maybe he knows whats up? Politician in town maybe? Or ticket frenzy?

Alot of times, they'll have one or two cars to run radar and look for "issues". They alert the guys down the road as to who to pull over and for what reason (i.e. the chase cars). They used to do it on I-195 between Jackson and Allentown alot back when I used to commute on that stretch in the 1980's. I think that was a training area for state troopers.

Actually the barracks are in Augusta on rt 206, and no, I don't know what was going on, rarely do I venture to that side of town. But I do know they're always in that area just patrolling but not w/ that many patrol cars.

the ticketing situation is only going to get worse in NJ, there is a bill pending that would add a $40 surcharge to speeding tickets to fund small towns who use troopers for patrols. if it passes it will take effect by December.

Here's a tip I learned long ago from a friend in law enforcement. When you get pulled over, after putting on your blinker and coming to a stop at the side of the road, put your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel and keep them there until the officer is standing at your window. THEN roll it down and follow his instructions. Don't reach for your paperwork until he asks for it-at night they will usually shine their light on your glovebox. If a police officer can see your hands the entire time during a traffic stop they will be much more at ease, which, combined with a calm, cool demeanor, may just make the difference between a ticket and warning.
When a police officer pulls someone over they have absolutely no idea what to expect. You could be just some random person driving to or from work, or you may have just killed someone, be running drugs, guns, etc...or you may have just stolen the car. Just because the officer runs the tag and sees "Etta Nelson, DOB 2/13/25, Muncie, Indiana" doesn't mean that Joe Smith didn't just shoot Etta, stuff her in the trunk, and is headed for Mexico.
In any event, when I was in college I worked late nights and had to go home through a ritzy neighborhood (Essex Fells) to get back to my apartment from work. Driving through Essex Fells at 2 AM in anything other than at least a BMW is kind of like driving with a "please pull me over" sign on your car. I got pulled over one night right in front of the police station (I think for going about 5 mph over the limit) and the first thing the officer said to me was "are you on the job?" When I said no he asked how I knew to do that. I explained and he simply told me to slow down and have a safe night.
