Hey Everybody,

How is the traffic from Maplewood to Elizabeth during rush hour? Google Maps suggests that I use 78 East and then 95 South and times it at ~20 min. Is this true?

I would greatly appreciate your input! So far, I've been commuting 95 North from South Jersey, and I would like to know how the 2 routes compare in terms of traffic!

Thanks!

It depends where in Elizabeth you are going to. But during off times to get from Maplewood to the Airport only takes 20 minutes using 78. During Rush hour I would take more of the back streets to Elizabeth. Again, depending where in Elizabeth the time should be no more than 30 minutes barring any accidents or detours. You can go to Morris Avenue and across Elmora or North Ave. There are lots of back road options.

Also I wouldn't bother with Noogle maps suggestion of I-95 which is the New Jersey Pick My Pocket Pike. From 78 I would just take US1-9 South. Why bother with 2 toll booths and the whole Pike thing, 1&9 has local and express lanes and no lights until you get into E'town. And yes have a back road such as Vauxhall or Mo Ave as an alternate in case the I-state is hammered for whatever reason. Should be a reasonably short ride either way.
