Below Trenton here, I don't find this true. I can't count the number of North Jersey transplants, myself included. I've yet to see anyone "hate" No Jersey people because a lot came from there.
Sure you see Philly teams in stores here, we're not that far away. I've always considered it the way it is. My hubby likes the Dolphins, I've yet to see someone talk down to him for it. I've also not seen anyone rag on my son for liking the Mets.
I like living down here. In about the same amount of time, I can drive to 3 airports, take my pick between Philly, Newark or Atlantic City. Although I've flown out of Newark when I lived in Union County, we prefer Philly.
As a teen, up until my 20's I went to NYC clubs. I loved the night life. I doubt Philly can come close to the NY night life.
Ha! Give it time....you'll see. I gave the same speech when I first moved into the area... Also, I'd be curious to know your age because I'm shocked to admit that the NY/North Jersey resentment is MUCH stronger with the 20 somethings.
How did that song go??...
"Hate your next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace"
I think it depends on the circles you move in. Some people could care less about it. They don't like north nj but they don't hate the people so much. It's a generalization and in some circles people are very used to outsiders.

Hmmm.....like I said, it's more common with the younger generation and may be getting progressively worse as more NYers move here. Where are you in Burlington County?? Maybe I need to move there! I'm in Camden County VERY near to Philly so maybe it's more intense here.
As for the sports, well....no offense, but no one fears the Dolphins!! Besides, they are not a division rival of the Eagles. Try wearing Giants, Cowboys, or Redskins gear and see the hollow stares you get. Baseball just isn't as intense, hence the pass on the Mets.

Invertigo:
I think the intensity is pretty consistent, once you cross that veneer from Manchester into Browns Mills, NJ turns on its axis from NY to Philly.
