Default "Private" outdoor places...

The "staycation"!

Ah, the wife thinks it's too expensive to go away this year, so we should enjoy a staycation here in New Jersey in lieu of vacation elsewhere. Okay, me says... and do what?

Well, our kids aren't children anymore, ranging in age from 26 to 16. They're not interested in staycationing with mom and dad.

So my beloved suggests that she and I step back in time a quarter century to our pre-parenting days and enjoy some ...ahem... "outdoor activity." Oh my! ... Oh yes!

So tell me, fellow Jerseyans. In this most densely populated state of our union -- no pun intended -- where are those nice, private, hidden spots to take off and get on?

Surely some of you rural "westerners" have some secret spots, yes?

Camping? B&B's? Is it a long weekend staycation? There's bunch of B&Bs along the delaware near Frenchtown, etc. - very romantic if that's what you are looking for? Old victorian style B&Bs with private cottages..wink, wink. You can hop over to Lambertville or new Hope for the day..little shopping..some great grub..live entertaiment, etc. That would be my suggestion. I'll see what I can find and get abck to you.

okay the ones that I am going to give you is a great day trip and hike! go to the Mohonk Preserve, do the rock scramble hike, then have lunch at the mohonk, its a fun hike like shutes and ladders for adults, not hard or dangerous right up the ny state thruway and close! This is really a fun hike and a beautiful place if you never been there. The Mohawk Mountain House, you can make a lunch reservation and they have a great lunch. If you feel like doing a beautiful hike 2 miles up with a huge payoff of a view and I mean BEAUTIFUL VIEW, look up Giant Ledge, off route 28 in the town of Big Indian, catskills. Its a great hike an easy 2 miles up and worth every minute of the views!!! BOth things are on the computer and you will have a blast and come home at night. Look these up on the computer, trust me I know outdoors and fun! THESE ARE WORTH IT AND BEAUTIFUL HIKING, WALKING AND NATURE AND CLOSE! (NY STATE not that far from NJ) can be a day trip I have done it many times and was home by 4 -5 pm

Mohonk is gorgeous!
I must say, I HATE the word Staycation. I think we should ban it before Websters adapts it!

MaverickDD doesn't strike me as the hiking kind : ) I think a nice B&B...some good grub and entertainment..couple of beers and then back to the love shack would suit him if I'm reading him correctly : )

sorry but the Mohonk is not alot of hiking they have the lake you can canoe, and that rock scamble is so much fun you dont even feel like your walking!! Plus the post said outdoor activities. Its really a great day trip, the place alone is so gorgous, its all sorts of carriage ways , easy walks and beautiful views, it would be like a second honeymoon and then they can fool around in the car!!! Rooms can be expensive!! I stayed there for my engagement. Its really a great place, i think its just what a couple needs to get back to fun and nature. And lunch is great!!!!
