Default East Brunswick to NY Port Authority

This has definitely been posted here before and I did try to look through all the relevant posts before posting. It seems there are different views in this forum on how long as it takes from East Brunswick to NYC by NJ Transit Bus. Some members said it will be an hour. Some said it will definitely be more. Others even went as far as up to 1 hours and 45 minutes if you don't leave by 7 a.m., I am just confused now.

I need to be at my office at 34 Street and 8th Avenue by 9 a.m. Figuring it will take me about 15 minutes walk from Port Authority to where my office is, that means I need to be at the Port Authority at least by 8:40 a.m. According to the NJ Transit Schedule (Bus # 138), there is a bus departing the E.B. Transportation Center (NJ 18 at Tices Lane) at 7:42 a.m. and will arrive at the Port Authority at 8:37 a.m. Is this schedule realistic, considering that it is rush hour?

Can someone who does the commute every day or had experience with the commute shed some lights?

1 hour if there is no rush hour traffic. Done it PLENTY of times and this is the truth. Also had family do the same thing. With traffic it is almost impossible to give you an accurate account since the traffic everyday is for something different. 2 hours is not unheard of if there is a serious accident or serious problems in NYC since right after the toll for Exit 16 on the NJ Turnpike is where the traffic starts during rush hour.
