Default NJ Monthly 2008 High School Rankings

I did a search for this and didn't find any threads dedicated to it.

It looks as though NJ Monthly came out with their biennial ranking of New Jersey's Top High Schools for 2008. Follow the link for the entire listing and their methodology. Number 1 for 2008 is Millburn High School.

very interesting. i didn't read the methodology for 2006, but it must be somewhat different, some schools really rose/fell in the rankings - montgomery being one of them (4 to 16 isn't horrible, but what changed in 2 yrs, KWIM?). i have a niece who will attend montgomery so i usually focus on that school.

i found it interesting willingboro rated higher than bayonne (2 other places i have an interest in).

the full .pdf has all the 411:

ok, i'm replying to myself, but i bet i know what happened with montgomery.....for the past "x" no. of year the district paid for this "SAT guru" to come and prepare the kids for the test ("teach to the test"), which is why for so long Montgomery had the highest scores in the state. My SIL told me they were ending the contract after that school yr was up (this was maybe 2 yrs ago?). Perhaps Millburn picked him up.........

I noticed a few more west in NJ went up..this would make sense with all the transplanting and downsizing. Lenape Valley in Stanhope is 105! Mt. Olive is 107! That's a great improvement for this area... will bring buyers.

Interesting info.

How does a school (Metuchen) go from #56 to #86 in 2 years?

*shrugs shoulders*

Without looking at the actual data we may never be able to point a figure at what the problem was/is.

It may not even be that Metuchen, as your example, didn't get worse at all, but rather the other schools got better. It is tough to say.

I wonder though- for towns that have experienced a dip, do parents at the next school board meeting bring articles like this in and demand an explanation?
