Hey everyone,

We're still looking for a home in Metuchen and wanted to know if there are any areas we should stay away from?

We drove down Midland Ave last weekend and there are a few houses for sale but the street looks questionable, especially down near the Central Ave side. There are a few houses that look to be in a state of disrepair, which makes us wonder if in the block is on an upswing or a downswing?

Does anyone know anything about this section of the boro? Is it safe, more prone to crime, etc?

Thanks.

It's such a small town that I would say it's hard to say there are bad sections. I personally think there are prettier sections than that one but I never heard of it as bad.

I know a lot of people like the Tommy's Pond area by the YMCA and off Main Street in the Hillside Avenue area. I also like back behind St. Francis.

There really are no high crime areas. This is a small town. About 2 square miles. Midland/Central is more toward the edge of town so it may not be as desirable that if you move closer into town but I don't know of any major crime issues.

Default Metuchen

Metuchen property taxes are extremely high, but otherwise is a nice area to live.

Some parts may seem a little run-down but there really are no bad parts of Metuchen and the cops know every teenager in town - it is so small everyone knows your business

it's a small town, One school per age so all the kids go to the same school regardless of where they live in town. Not really any bad areas. It's the kind of town where you may find a small house for 400,000 right next door to a new construction McMansion.

Its a quiet little town. No part of it can be described as "bad". It does have a bunch of older homes and some are in need of TLC but everywhere has its charm. Isnt the school and the country club right in that area as well?

The Side of metuchen near central avenue is going to be the ideal place to live in town. you will be able to be near metuchen's new extention of down town. in about five years the entire strip of central avenue will be redeveloped like west field an all brand new down town. The food town developement should be started this summer. the old dodge dealer is in the works to be developed. So is the land near joey d's.

Default Florio

Metuchen was good enough for Gov Florio to move to. Is he still there?
A "bad" section of Metuchen???? How do you define "bad"? I'm thinking bad section of Newark vs bad section of Metuchen and I laugh.
