Forum- Nj
I grew up in Ridgewood NJ - left there when I was 23. I'm now 51 and have lived in CT about 30 years. If I was rich I'd consider moving back to Ridgewood. I love that town. CT is ok, but I'm a Jersey girl I guess at heart. Yet, I depise winter and snow. For that reason, I may move to AZ - not sure yet.

With the crazy weather associated with Global Warming, you might not have to put up too much with snow in New Jersey. We have been getting less and less snow, but on the other hand the storms we do get have terrible winds associated with them.
As far as Ridgewood, others can probably chime in here, but towns in NJ have changed so much in the last 12 years or so. You may be wanting to go back to a place that no longer exists as you knew it.
IMO, once a Jersey girl, always a Jersey girl.

Ridgewood
Ridgewood is still very charming. We meet friends in Ridgewood for dinner about once a month as it's kind of mid-way between our home in Orange County, NY and Somerset County, NJ.
I grew up just next door in Waldwick in the same era as the earlier poster who grew up in Ridgewood. (I'm 51 --- egads!) If you go back, sure you'll see changes. (Sealfon's is gone.) But it is still thriving place.
I whole-heartedly agree -- once a Jersey Girl, always a Jersey Girl.

How It Works

Global warming does not mean a sudden rise in temperature. It is actually a very violent event, with great swings in temperatures and amount of precipitation. Almost cataclysmic in nature. People don't realize it is not a steady progression upward, but similar to a person with a severe illness, where fever can rage and then disappear, only to rage again.
Think of it as a huge upheaval. In the past, climatic change was dramatic but not within such a short time. Ours has been hastened by everything that has been admitted to the atmospheric mix.
When it all settles, then the rise in temperature will become a permanent fixture. It has been thought that people who live in Winnepeg, for instance, will have a climate matching that of South Carolina. It will not happen all at once.
Here in NJ we have experienced some of the worst storms in my memory. Not so much precipitation as extremely damaging winds and flooding. This is the hallmark of climate change. The storms will continue to worsen in intensity.
Which is why I remarked that NJ might be entirely different in the future. One has to stand back and look at the larger picture rather then a yearly basis.
Hope this helps....I resent being called a kook when pictures of the ice caps taken within the last 10 years has proven beyond a doubt we are in for a huge change. Best to check what you are not being told as opposed to those who for one reason or another don't want the truth to come out.

YOU claimed there was less and less snow due to global warming, I pointed out the FACT that 2 years ago we had a record amount of snow fall. Post one fact in error means that anything in that post is of dubious value. Now you're rambling about ice caps, true they are receding but an alternative explanation is that this is a natural cycle and believe it or not the ice caps receding can have many beneficial consequences.
I know that you're passionate about the subject but throwing out made up facts like the lack of snow in NJ doesn't help your cause, so if you don't want to be labeled as a kook don't post kookiness

Periods of record warmth for at least as long as records have been kept does not constitute "lack of proof"?.
I am not "passionate" about it but mentioned it about NJ to add some lightness to the discussion. I did not take that ball and run with it. Lighten up!
As they say, only in New Jersey....
P.S. I wouldn't call anyone a kook on this forum, just say that I have a different viewpoint. Why someone goes on about it is beyond me. Only time will tell (and probably all of us gone by then) who is right.

200 or so years is but a mere drop in the bucket when talking about natural or unnatural earth cycles, you're getting into the land of nonsense.

when you use falsehoods to substantiate your views you veer into the realm of kookism, if people who believe in an issue tell lies to further their advocacy, that too falls into the realm of kookism.
the issue you brought up to lighten the discussion is a very serious one and to disseminate lies and half truths is kooky.
Sorry you don't like the response, try sticking to real, verifiable facts and your credibility won't be in play

Not that I don't like the response, I don't like name-calling.
Now you are calling me a liar--I believe it is time to move on. Since the theory can't be proven one way or the other, I think your statements are way out of hand.
And what does all this have to do with the near future in NJ anyway? Go on science boards, not city forums. People will believe what they want regardless of what you or I say, just like religious issues.
Geez, can't even joke around here anymore. And before you ask, I don't even like Al Gore....

Loved it!!
I grew up in Ridgewood in 50's & 60's - it was a fairytale village! I've been in FL since late 60's but never stopped missing NJ (AND SNOW!!!) Would move back in a NY minute IF I could afford it (which I can't
