Thanks for your response, grifter. I totally get a lot of what you're saying about NC.

Although so many of us have left, there is definitely something about NJ that tugs at our hearts!
Good luck with everything.

If money was not an option I would probably live in the Far Hills/Mendham area. Love it up there. Brookville, Long Island would be a choice as well.

Default NorthWest NJ

I lived in NorthWest NJ for most of my life, got married, raised my family and ever imagined leaving, until a family situation came up and we had to leave for FL. as I boarded the plane with my kids bound for Tampa, we cried the whole way down, we custom built a beautiful home and settled in, but every summer back to NJ we would go, the return trip down the turnpike with kids crying about they wanted to stay, just about broke my heart. One child returned to NJ and never looked back, and is still there in her old neighborhood with her growing family. I on the other hand, stayed because of committments and family concerns. Would I go back? In a heartbeat, but unfortunately, NJ has priced the average Joe out of the market, I cannot afford $5/6,000 dollars in taxes, nor can I afford to buy a $400,000 home.
Neither can my other children, who basically were raised in FL and no nothing else, my wish for them is for them to leave FL and get a better quaility of life.

I will come be to NJ one day, to be buried next to my husband in a little cemetery that looks at the mountains......yes, someday.

That is a very sweet story Songbird......
New Jersey does tend to have that type of pull, always trying to pull our hearts back home. Don't know where that comes from. But, it can be heard in postings on here so many times.
Pull as it might, some will return to the struggles they flew from. Hoping the circumstances will be less then they remember. But will they be?
The cost of a home is very high in NJ, over most peoples heads.
The taxes however, are equal to many of the Pa border towns. Pa. is no picnic with the taxing rates either. Many in Pa. are not fleeing the house prices, but rather the tax situation, especially the school tax.
The wages in the Pennsylvania area are to be laughed at, and are by many.
I have to give NJ credit for the fact that they pay their workers a decent wage.
Songbird, good luck to you........hoping you are feeling better.

Moved from NJ to Northern VA almost 2 yrs. ago - would not go back - dont like to go backwards -
What I miss: beaches, pizza, wiseguy attitude, funny, unique people. What I dont miss: political corruption, substardard schools, crime, rudeness, high taxes, gang shootings, high car insurance.
What I have now: excellent schools for my kids, low taxes, more parks and pretty countryside.
What I dont like about VA: traffic, snobbiness, fakeness, people to into getting ahead, high housing costs.

NJ is unique. Just compare threads in the NJ forums here to any other state--there's NOTHING like it. So many of us have a love/hate relationship with it. Nowhere is there so much variety packed into such a small area. Where did it all go wrong?

A bit off thread but can anyone here remember the Uncle Floyd show? It was hilarious with its own brand of humor, the references to the crazy goings on in the Garden State etc. etc. What other state would have produced such an unusual show that could both poke fun and also bring out the better things about NJ?

It has been many years since the show aired on local channels. I know that one of the main characters, Mugsy, passed away a few years ago. Maybe Floyd is still on the radio, I don't know. But just another example of how very unique New Jersey is.

Many of us are longlife NJ residents and the proverbial rug has been pulled from many of us - hence why you see the valid points on how expensive NJ is. Many of us don't earn 6 figures and never will.
