I'm fortunate in that I'm only 2 1/2 hours from the Jersey shore and NYC. I can still go "home again" and still get the NYC rush.

The only complaint I have with people in NJ is that there aren't that many here in NEPA!!! No matter where I've lived, I always tell people I'm from NEW JERSEY!!!!!!!

I've traveled all over this country and don't believe in the stereotypes nor the generalizations. Even if there ever had been any truth to them, we are so mobile and so many have relocated from every geographical area to every other geographical area that it doesn't hold water for me.
Even politicians, they're the same everywhere you go................
|
I don't buy that and never will. If people were the same then why would people choose to live in one area and stay away from others?
Sure there are exceptions but for the most part majorities rule.

I agree they can be loud...in some areas. I find it moreso closer to the parts near NY or Philly than in central NJ for example.

We don't necessarily WANT to,it's part of the Jersey curse

I was forced, after she did not understand that when someone gives nothing but one word answers to your first three questions that the said person is probably not interested in talking, to tell her "I would rather be left alone, no offense" at which point she called me a "douchebag" and walked away.

Wow you're actually lucky someone from NJ talked to you! In my experience alot of them are indeed standoffish themselves!

I say "I like the woods and backpacking" and people react as if I have just painted a Nazi swastika on my car.
If you are not one of them and have interest in things other than what the Jersey people are into, you will find yourself instantly alienated.
|
I have those same experiences here in Philly...actually by comparison I think NJ people are pretty accepting. But if you're not from an area I can understand feeling like an outsider.

Join the club! They'll only talk to ya in PA if they grew up with you and that's it...otherwise you get looked at funny. Funny how the states are so close yet so different.

Don't mind it,I've lived in PA almost as long as I lived in NJ and no matter where I went in the state the people were sour for the most part. I don't know if it was all their blue collar industries folding up and/or moving out of state but from what I've seen it's been like that for awhile now.
Matter of fact, remember that Billy Joel song 'Allentown' from around 1982? That pretty much explains it.
I think Barack was onto something when he said the people from PA are bitter.
Don't get me wrong, pretty much alot of the northeast is kinda nasty...but I guess that's what they call 'attitude'

The only thing that people from NEPA know is that they don't want us here. I've ALWAYS been "one of those", something I'm proud of.
