Being loud and knowing how to take care of a lady is not an NJ thing. It might be the person's background/ethnicity. The sarcasm is more general to everyone- so yes to that I'd say.

I never really got into that stereotype either about everybody in NJ liking Italian food. I wasn't raised on it nor did I really start eating it until recently...(besides too much pasta bogs me down)

I don't come from an Italian family but my surroundings pretty much dictated our food. The majority of the stores on my block were "Mom and Pop" stores and they were Italians. The supermarket was about a 10-15 minute walk from the apartment so we got our weekly order there.

You must've grown up in a city of some sort...we didn't have 'blocks' and walking didn't get you very far. We pretty much had to drive to the supermarket and bought and ate mostly at home.
I didn't start going out to dinner until I was in my 20s

That's pretty interesting. That would have been nice I think. The advent of suburbia killed much of that kind of thing with most people grocery shopping in chains. I frequent mom and pop stores and ethnic food shops when I can. The high end ones tend to be expensive but for certain things I love that. I wish I would have grown up like that.

I lived in Newark for a year, Jersey City for 9 years and Union Beach for 15 years. These areas have changed considerably since I left. I also worked in Newark for 2 years. You can take me out of the city but can't take the city out of me. The same goes for taking me out of Jersey but you can't take Jersey out of me!!!!!

I had friends in Cranford so I did have an escape. Add fresh White Castle ham/cheeseburgers to my list of things I miss from NJ. The frozen are good but not the same as the fresh.

This mis-placed New Jerseyian is going to get some sleep.

Last edited by njmike; 09-12-2008 at 10:39 PM.. Reason: I misspelled Jerseyian. Please not the Meadowlands!!!!!
