WOW, this is too funny! This sort of thing happened to me many years ago and I still laugh at it. I was in florida ordering a sandwich of some kind from a Deli. The guy behind the counter, who was the only one in the store, said "We don't have any coldcuts (although the sign/menu had the sandwiches listed). I was just about to go to the grocery store and pick up some stuff. If you wait, I can make you the sandwich when I get back."

WHAT?!?!?!? No freaking way am I waiting for that! lol No, I didn't say that to him. I just said "That's OK, thanks. I have to be on my way." I did leave the place with a weird feeling of "This is how they operate?" type of feeling.

Girls are easy there too. THERE, I said it!

I spent 12 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was quite a lovely place but there is NO place like home.

My hubby is from Los Angeles and I thought he would be very put off by New Jersey but he has experienced quite the opposite of the stereo-typical krap that has been posted on this thread.

He claims that people here are much easier to deal with because they are honest and more open. He (...remember HE is from LA) will be the first to say that in LA,the phrase LAID-BACK is a cover for "I couldn't really give a s--t about you."

I am going to be VERY grown-up on this thread and I will NOT even go there about English men. Hot accents none the less.

LMR422 is on a distinguished road
I think in general you get what you give - I grew up in NYC (Queens) and found people there to be really nice and very friendly. Got married at 21 and moved to Mercer County - lived there for 12 years. Loved it - everyone was nice to me, I was nice to everyone. Went to Denver, CO for six years - same thing, nice people, very friendly. Came back to the area - ended up in Bucks County, PA. No problems - everyone is very pleasant.
My only complaint - after living in NJ and going to Denver - I spent the whole six years explaining us NJers weren't all thugs like the Sopranos, and I've spent the past six years here explaining that us Denverites were not all jean-and-cowboy wearing hee haws!

I lived in Boca Raton Florida for a while and was defrauded and left in permanent ruin. But the thieves smiled, were always polite and friendly and made me feel loved.

I realized the benefits of NJ. In South Florida, they scam you while feigning deep friendship. In NJ, they are rude and nasty and just kill you. I much prefer the latter.

Of course most people are nice to 21 year old girls as opposed to guys
So as for 'getting what you give',that's not been my experience. I started out being pleasant like my mom always taught me and I got nothing but beat down by the world sorry to say.

What ever happened to the concept of the "Jersey Attitude"?
When did it peak - early/mid 90s?
Where did it originate/spill over from - NYC?
What is its epicenter - Lodi/Hackensack?
Is "Jersey Attitude" still alive and kickin' (people's a$$es)?

Let's focus on "attiude". comments anyone?

Blondie, I have to give you a rep on this one!! I hate to stereotype..but that was the majority of my experience while I was in Florida..i don't know..maybe its Orlando? I guess they leave all the hospitality to Minnie and Mickie?? I dunno..

Hilarious!! There was this Jamaican restaraunt that we went to all the time..one day we went and there werent any lights on..so we figured they are probably on vacation. Well...about 3wks later..i passed by again, lights were still turned off. I decided to call..and ofcourse I got the good ole message "the number you have dialed has been disconnected". You'd think a note/sign.."we are out of business..thanks for your patronage"..something.. i dont know what it is.

I also remember standing online at a store..the line was tremendous. THe cashier was taking her sweet time talking to the customer. I looked at everyone else online and they seemed to be ok with what was going on..so I figure "trish, relax and just listen to the store music"....but then i lost my mind when the cashier decided to leave the line of about 10 people to show a customer where an item was..turned out they didnt even carry the dam product. I was heated... I just knew if i stayed there, i would have been behind bars for the first time in my life!! Mind you..i was on line for about 20 mins... ..just madness i tell you!
