Anyway, I got a new computer - laptop/wireless - N (which I'm on now), and a router (Linksys Ultra-N Range/Plus). Everything's set up, trouble is that while my laptop recognizes my wireless (which is unsecured), my PC doesn't recognize the router (and is therefore disconnected at the moment. I'm running off my DSL/Router connection alone). I called my best friend's father, who works in computers, but he couldn't speak to me very long.

He told me to type IPConfig into the run/command prompt - but he had to go before we could resolve the problem. If any of you guys could help me here - point me in some direction - or DM me - I'd greatly appreciate it, as I'd like for both computers to have internet access at once, and I'd love to get my network secured.
I've seen instances where the laptop can see your access point (router), but can't get out to the internet. This is a tough one. Here's a couple things you can try.

1. From Control Panel, network connections, right click and make sure your wireless connection is enabled

2. Linksys routers have a default IP of 192.168.1.1, open up a browser and type that in, check your encryption level.

3. Sometimes you just have to play around with it, maybe your router has an SSID that requires a password

4. Email or call Linksys, I emailed them once, it was free, quick response time, and they solved my problem

DHCP is set correctly, the network card is properly detected in the desktop, the router's config page can't even be reached by the desktop.... any other ideas for her? I'm runnin out atm
The problem can also be the computer. To not waste time pulling out your hair, yes, I would exchange. If the problem still exists then it is the computers. I had an issue like this with my XP Pro computer, it was a PITA. I had to release/renew the IP address. I'll have to think of what I did. Not sure if the computer boots any more to test it because it would have the same issue since we're in another house since I last booted it. I know of another person that has this issue. You can see it is connected in the control panel but you can't connect to the net.

I'm almost positive (once I hit submit) that I posted directions at another forum. If they are needed I can see if I can find them.
